I have always found that when soenmoe is being disruptive, they need attention give it to them just not how they want it.. Don’t overreact.. just walk by their chair and smile and ask them questions get their input in a casual I see and hear what you are doing manner.. then thank them when they answer or look consufed when they do not.. If they are class clowns appreciate their humor and talk to them seperately after class (eg, Bobby Jones can I see you after class please after class: Bobby, look I think you are a very funny kid your humor is top notch and you might want to look into getting a job as a comedians someday.. but even comedians all know that timing is everything and I am having a hard time teaching the rest of the class when you are disruptive would you mind toning it down for me so I can do my job? Most 8th graders, without an audience to look cool in front of will in fact cooperate.. maybe slipping up once in awhile, but looking to you for cues in fact, find the strongest, leader of the disrupters and they will actually help you over time, they will be an ally of sorts maybe telling other kids to chill when acting up rather than adversary all because you took 5 minutes out and spoke with them directly.. Also, if you get frazzled, they will KNOW and run with it.. always act resillient even if you are seething inside..Also, seperate the friends if they are showing off in front of one another they hate sitting at the front of the class (at least in my day they did) Put your classroom desks in a circle so everyone sees everyone that makes a good classroom environment too..
