ArtsConnection Puppetry at PS130

One of the many exciting things happening throughout the year here at PS130 because of our partnership with Arts Connection.

ArtsConnection is using CCA grant

ArtsConnection secured a CCA (Common Core and the Arts) grant and they are using funds to equip teachers at PS130 with training and tools to best integrate common core standards within the puppetry program.  The puppetry program is one of the tools teachers can use to deliver and assess core curriculum material in their classrooms.  Not only is there a strong tie in with the social studies curriculum, but also with ELA(speaking and listening, formative assessment, giving feedback, and more).

Students will design and create hand puppets.  The puppets will depict a character from a Native American Folktale.  Students will divide the story into scenes and write a dialog to tell the story. They will sculpt an expression on the puppet and add paint, hair, and clothing.  Watch for an invitation to your student’s performance!
