We offer the following to our students through outside partnerships, afterschool specialists, and special programs facilitated by our staff.
The “Fablab” Makerspace
Through a partnership with BEAM Center our teachers co-design and facilitate maker challenges for our students in grades 3-5 that create differentiated hands-on student-driven collaborative projects that enhance standard units of study. As part of this interdisciplinary project, students also work during their media literacy cluster to document the learning process using digital media. The video above — a collaboration between 5th graders and The Media Spot — showcases all of the above as a learning tool for teachers and students alike as they continue to develop Fablab experiences!
Social Emotional Learning
With leadership from our guidance department, we integrate Responsive Classroom student-centered, social and emotional learning approach to teaching and discipline, as well as RULER an evidence-based approach for integrating social and emotional learning into schools, developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Additionally, our counselors facilitate practices such as the Peace Path (in the video above), Heart Math, meditation, mindfulness, movement breaks and yoga, and other research-based practices for social emotional health and learning. Visit our Guidance website for more information.
